A prisoner, who was lodged in Chamoli jail on murder charge, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself here, police said today.
Chamoli tehsildar Sohan Singh Rangad said the body of 30 -year-old Jaiwir Ram was found hanging in the bathroom of the prison late last evening.
He said that post-mortem of Ram's body was being done to know the exact cause of his death. However, due to the rope marks on the inmate's neck, hanging seems to be the cause.
The prisoner was accused of murdering his wife
