The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh and sought a detailed report regarding 40 labourers missing from a cement factory in Damoh district.
A daily national The Pioneer on November 26 carried a story regarding missing of 40 labourers from the cement factory. On Monday, the MPHRC had issued notices to senior Government officials and district administration in Madhya Pradesh in the same issue. Joint Registrar of NHRC, AK Parashar said that the Commission has taken cognizance of a complaint quoting media reports of the November 26, wherein it has been alleged that about 40 labourers were not traceable after heavy cranes collapsed in an under construction cement factory in Narsingarh village of Damoh in Madhya Pradesh. "The Commission has asked the Chief Secretary, Government of Madhya Pradesh to submit a report within six weeks in the matter," he added.
Allegedly, about 300 labourers, mostly from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, were working at the construction site at the time of incident on the 23rd November. The complainant has demanded compensation for the families of the deceased labourers and medical treatment of the injured. Meanwhile, sources informed that the senior officials of the company reached the plant on Tuesday and took stock of the situation.
