Eight Congress MLAs and an independent legislator were suspended from the remaining ongoing budget session of the state legislative assembly on Tuesday for disrupting proceedings in the House. The suspended legislators were protesting against the lathicharge on Youth Congress workers who were agitating against the Land Acquisition Bill, likely to be put to vote in the current session.

Over 30 Congress party workers, including Pradesh Congress Committee chief Sachin Pilot and some senior Congress leaders, were lathicharged by the local police as the agitators marched towards the legislative assembly in an attempt to gherao the House.

Pilot and over 30 Youth Congress workers including legislator Ashok Chandna sustained injuries in the lathicharge. The Congress led Opposition has been protesting against the amendments in the Land Bill calling the changes anti-farmer.

In a rally against the land acquisition bill, Pilot on Tuesday said that the changes brought about by the NDA government are unfortunate and have been used against the farmers. "The Bill introduced by the previous UPA government ensured that a social impact assessment was done and if the acquired land was not used for upto three years it would go back to the owner. These provisions have been done away by the NDA and even the accountability of government officials has been diluted," Pilot said.

While a debate was underway on the Governor's address, Chandna entered the session and started showing his injuries. This agitated the Congress legislators in the House and independent MLA Hanuman Beniwal, who raised a strong protest against the state government's move to crush the agitation alleging autocratic behaviour. The protesting legislators rushed into the well of the House and raised a furore.

The protest within the House disrupted proceedings right before Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje was about to deliver her reply to the Governor's address. Chief whip Kalulal Gurjar maintained that the proceedings were being disrupted but the Opposition refused to calm down. The ruling party called for the suspension of the agitating legislators for the rest of the session and marshalls were called in by the Speaker to escort them out of the House. Raje is slated to present the state budget on March 9.

Therefore it is kind request please take appropriate action at earliest.

Thanking You,

Sincerely Yours,
