BBMP health centres in the pits?
TNN | Jul 8, 2011
BANGALORE: A single medical officer takes care of 71,635 persons in one health centre. She also holds charge of three hospitals. No pharmacist, no midwife and no beds here — this is the pathetic condition of the BBMP's health centre at New Bagalur Layout, where Indian Public Health standards are completely ignored.
It was brought into focus during a public hearing on the urban health system, organized by NGO Civic here on Thursday.
Community health cell coordinator E Premdas said, "We are trying to correct the loopholes in the health system and strengthen the policies and primary health systems of hospitals. Availability of doctors in government hospitals itself is an issue as most of them are busy with private practice. We are working towards making secure health a fundamental right, just like education."
A book 'Namma Asptreyatta' (A Look at our Hospitals), was released during the public hearing.
Sir, on behalf of PVCHR, I request you to look into the matter and take necessary action.
With regards,
Dr. Mohanlal Panda
