Punjab Police torture teen arrested for theft
New Delhi: In a shocking case of police atrocity from Punjab's Kapurthala district a 15-year-old boy was allegedly tortured after being arrested on charges of theft in June.
The teenager was allegedly kept in illegal custody for 36 hours and brutally tortured by the area Deputy Superintendent of Police. He was beaten, given electric shocks and was allegedly made to confess under duress.
"They took me away without any notice & locked me up in the police station. Around 12pm, the DSP came. He forced me to confess that I had stolen goods. They refused to believe that I was innocent. The cops kept assaulting me and administered third-degree torture," said the boy.
The boy's family has taken up the matter in the juvenile court. The family alleges that police are exerting pressure for an out-of-court settlement.
Sir, on behalf of PVCHR, I request you to look into the matter and take necessary action.
With regards,
Dr. Mohanlal Panda
