Sir,

Greetings from PVCHR.

 Scribe attacked in Ledo, critical

A scribe working for a Guwahati-based satellite news channel and a vernacular daily is battling for life at a private nursing home after being attacked by some unidentified persons at Ledo in Tinsukia district on Wednesday night.

According to reports, Diganta Chetia, a correspondent, had gone to do a story on illegal coal mining activities in the area when some masked men suddenly attacked him with blunt weapons. Chetia, who suffered serious head injuries, collapsed on the spot and was taken to Margherita Civil Hospital by some persons. Later, he was admitted to a private nursing home in Dibrugarh where he had to undergo a major surgery.

Currently, he is under ventilation in the ICU. Doctors attending to him said his condition was
critical. Sources said a section of the coal mafia may be behind the attack. Illegal coal mining is rampant in the Ledo area for a long time allegedly with the patronage of top police officials and politicians.

Sir, on behalf of PVCHR, I request you to look into the matter and take necessary action against the culprit.

With regards,

Dr. Mohanlal Panda
