Even before the Mayawati government could crack the case of murder and alleged rape of a minor in Lakhimpur, yet another horror has emerged from the state. A 14-year-old girl suffered a grievous eye injury after she was stabbed allegedly by two youths when she resisted their attempt to rape her in Gursahaiganj area in Kannauj, a senior police officer said today.

Dilip and Niranjan Yadav attempted to rape the girl when she had gone out in connection with some work in Gadwa Buzurg village last evening, Rajendra Singh, Superintendent of Police Kannauj said.

"When the girl raised alarm, the duo attacked her with knives, piercing her left eye and injuring the other," Singh said.

The girl has been referred to Kanpur for further treatment, the SP said.

"The two accused are from the girl's village," the SP said.

The left eye has suffered around 80 per cent damage and it might not be normal again as the cornea has been affected, a doctor at a local hospital said after examining the girl. Sub divisional magistrate Manoj Singhal said that financial assistance would be given to the girl from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.

The horror in Kannauj will add to the troubles of chief minister Mayawati who is already facing flak from several quarters over the Lakhimpur case. In Lakhimpur, a 14-year-old girl was murdered in a police station and her body was found hanging from a tree in the compound. The parents of the girl have alleged that the girl was first raped and then murdered by the cops. However, the post mortem report has failed to confirm rape of the girl.

बस्ती। उत्तर प्रदेश में लखीमपुर खीरी और बाराबंकी का मामला अभी थमा नहीं था कि बस्ती जिले में एक दलित युवती के साथ बलात्कार का मामला सामने आया है।

बस्ती के अपर पुलिस अधीक्षक सुरेन्द्र बहादुर ने बताया कि थाना नगर क्षेत्र की एक 20 वर्षीय दलित युवती के साथ कल पडो़स के ही शक्ति सिंह नाम के युवक पर बलात्कार का आरोप लगा है। युवती की मां ने शक्ति सिंह के खिलाफ नामजद रिपोर्ट दर्ज कराई है। आरोपी की अब तक गिरफ्तारी नहीं हो पाई है।

इस बीच लखीमपुर खीरी और बाराबंकी की घटना की तरह यह मामला भी राजनीतिक रंग लेता जा रहा है। मुख्य विपक्षी दल समाजवादी पार्टी(सपा) ने आरोप लगाया है कि दलित महिला मुख्यमंत्री होने के बावजूद दलित महिलाओं के साथ अत्याचार बढ़ता जा रहा है।

गौरतलब है कि लखीमपुर खीरी के निघासन थाना परिसर में एक नाबालिग लड़की का शव पेड़ से लटका हुआ पाया गया था। शव का दो बार पोस्टमार्टम किया गया। दोनों में बलात्कार की पुष्टि नहीं हुई थी लेकिन उसके परिजनों ने बलात्कार के बाद हत्या का आरोप लगाया था।

Sir, it is very unfortunate that despite having so much of security presence in the state, minor girls are getting raped. On behalf of PVCHR, I request you to intervene in the matter and direct the state government to speed up the investigation process and engage the local civil society groups to maintain law and order in the state. The family of the victim should be compensated adequately.
