Sir,

Greetings from PVCHR.

Please refer to the link: http://www.deccanherald.com/content/170548/dalit-families-ostracised.html

According to this report Y C Kambale, a leader of Bahujan Samaj Party, has alleged in a press conference on Tuesday that dalits  were attacked on June 15 for frivolous reasons by the upper caste people. Members of the upper castes beat up women and the elderly among the dalits and their household items were damaged, Kambale said. A boycott was imposed on them from June 16 on 50 dalit families of Yaragoppa S B village of Badami taluk, he alleged.

The boycott has made it impossible for the dalits to move about in the village and purchase essential items in the shops. Efforts were being made to project the dalits as the wrongdoers, he alleged.

Kambale demanded that a probe committee of district-level officials be formed  for protection of dalits who face social boycott. He said a gruel centre should be opened to rehabilitate the dalit families and demanded that the false cases lodged against them be withdrawn.

Sir, on behalf of PVCHR, I request you to look into the matter and initiate action against the perpetrator of this violence against dalits and planning their social boycott. The dalit families must be provided with enough security and compensations. The state must ensure that the dalit families enjoy free access to move around the village and buy their essential commodities. The state should initiate measures to sensitize the upper caste people in the village against the untouchable practices.

With regards,
