Online trading: Woman duped of 94 lakh, 6 held

Dwaipayan GhoshDwaipayan Ghosh, TNN | Jul 1, 2011,

NEW DELHI: The Janakpuri police have busted a gang that cheated a usinesswoman-cum-shareholder of Rs 94 lakh by hacking her demat account and selling off her shares. Six people have been arrested in the case while several others are being questioned.

The complainant, Vimlesh Mittal, a resident of Narmada Apartment in Alakananda near CR Park, said she had a demat account with M/S Integrated Enterprises(I) Ltd since 1999. "She had complied with 'Know Your Customer' norms in 2007 as mandated by the Securities and Exchange Board of
India by submitting a copy of her PAN card and voter ID. She opened an offline trading account with M/s Integrated Securities Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of M/S Integrated Enterprises (I) Ltd in January 2008," said DCP (west) V Renganathan.

On June 3, 2010, the complainant and her husband, Suresh Kumar Mittal, went abroad and returned to India on March 3 this year. She received demat account statements dated April 19 and May 11 from Integrated Securities Ltd and found that all her shares with 29 companies worth Rs 94,00,000 were sold off without her knowledge.

"She and her husband visited the company to complain about the unauthorized transaction. After scrutinizing records, the company told her that someone might have impersonated her and processed a request to add a new bank account in her name. That same person also submitted documents to convert her offline trading account into an online one and forged her signature to fraudulently sell her shares. The sale proceeds were credited to an account with a private bank in Chandigarh opened in her name. A case was registered at the Janakpuri Police Station and investigation taken up," said the DCP.

Sir, on behalf of PVCHR, I request you to look into the matter and take necessary action.

With regards,
