Sir,

Greetings from PVCHR.

Please refer to the news report through the link, http://www.dharitri.com/100611/story5.asp
The report refers to the displacement issues involving tribal families in the Koraput district, Odisha due to the construction of Upper Kolab Irrigation Project way back in 1984-85. One hundred seventy families were displaced and settled in Kotpad Block in three camps, report further added.
On 9th June, 2011, 1600 tribals representing 70 displaced villages who lost their land in the project way back in 1984-85 have assembled to make a five point demand for their proper rehabilitation. Referring to the organizers of the report says that the tribals were displaced under a hastily legislated policy at that time. Due to that policy the displaced families have neither got adequate compensation for their land nor provided with basic infrastructure like road or school or health care facilities.
The tribal gathering as per same media report, demand for better and adequate rehabilitation support all the displaced people, in tune with the present rehabilitation policy of the state government.
Sir, may I request you to look into the matter and provide necessary direction for a humanitarian and dignified settlement of the displaced tribals. It may be mentioned that Maoist groups are very active in this district. They are always looking for opportunities to take advantage of the grievances of the tribal people against the elected government.
With regards,

Dr. Mohanlal Panda
