Sir,
Greetings from PVCHR.
Please refer to the link: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/Maid-gangraped-by-NGO-owners-1-held/articleshow/8957447.cms
The Times of India, 23rd June, 2011, reports that a young girl from Jharkhand was gangraped by an NGO owner and his two friends in northwest Delhi. The girl, who had come to the city looking for a job, was allegedly drugged and raped by the trio. The incident came to light on June 20 after the victim lodged a complaint with the police.
One of the rapists, Shiv Ram, 40, has been arrested. But the main accused, Baldev and Bamdev, are still on the run, said deputy commissioner of police (northwest) Meenu Choudhary.
All three accused are part of NGOs that claim to fight against exploitation of the downtrodden, particularly migrants from Jharkhand. Both NGOs, Jharkhand Nyay Manch and Seva Bharti claims to take up the cause of the poor, particularly exploitation of maids from Jharkhand by placement agencies.
A medical examination confirmed rape. said a senior police officer.
Sir, on behalf of PVCHR, I request NHRC to look into the matter and bring the perpetrators to book. The state should also be directed to arrange psychological counseling for the victim. The activities of these NGOs must further be investigated to find out whether they have exploited other girls who come to Delhi for finding livelihood opportunities but could not generate enough courage to complaint against these perpetrators.
With regards,
Dr. Mohanlal Panda
