Please refer to the following news item.
This is a serious case of police hassassment and an example how the protector can be perpetrator. On behalf of PVCHR, I request you to investigate the matter and take necessary action against the police involved. It should also be investigated that whether the police was doing this act in collusion with others. The family of the girl must be compensated adequately.

| Srinagar, May 30: A Jammu girl flung herself into the Chenab after alleged police harassment for chatting with a former classmate in public, the tragedy coinciding with the second anniversary of the Shopian double rape-and-murder blamed on security forces. Rahida Bano was being taken to a police station in Doda by policemen who asked her what she was doing with "male friend" for "so long" and threatened them with arrest. The 21-year-old kept pleading with the policemen to let her go but when her entreaties went unheeded, she broke free and jumped into the river. She is feared drowned. |
