Sir,

Greetings from PVCHR.

 http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/No-rehab-plan-for-those-evicted-before-Games/articleshow/8807566.cms

Despite a Delhi high court order to rehabilitate jhuggi dwellers evicted during the beautification drive ahead of the Commonwealth Games, the state government has said it has no such plans.

In response to an RTI on providing alternate dwelling to those whose jhuggis were removed, as the media report says, the government of Delhi stated its policy is that "no flats should be allotted to such dwellers." The stand came in response to an RTI plea seeking to know the government's policy on providing alternate dwellings to those whose jhuggis were removed.

These dwellers came in the 'Right of Way' as their houses lay between the Tyagraj stadium to Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and Khel Gaon area.

"This commission is distressed at such a lawless state of affairs where a government knowingly flouts the order of the courts even when no stay has been obtained on such an order. Citizens will have scant respect for the law if the government itself fails to respect it," an unhappy Gandhi observed while disposing of an appeal filed by a person called Jawahar Singh, reported in the media.

Sir, PVCHR requests to look into the matter and direct the state government to undertake proper rehabilitation of the slum dwellers. The state must ensure that its citizens lead a life with dignity and it does not discriminate between rich and poor.

Yours sincerely,
