Sir,

Greetings from PVCHR.

Please refer to the news paper report from Odisha.

The media reports about the large scale eviction and loss of livelihood by small businessman in Cuttack city. The Cuttack Municipality Corporation authority along with district administration and police administration are reportedly evicting these businessman to clear illigal occupation. The authorities are citing direction of the Honourable High Court in this regard.

Incidentally, the house committee of the state assembly had visited the area and had supposedly identified land for rehabilitating these business evicted by establishing vending zone. as per media report. The reports also cites that the Commissioner of Cuttack Municipality Corporation had also promised to establish 19 vending zone two years back. But nothing has happened so far.

Sir, I request you to look int the matter as it involves loss of livelihood of thousands of small scale businessman and families dependent on their income. The state must be directed to restrain from carrying out eviction without rehabilitating the shop owners first. Action must be initated against those officers who undertake such unilateral actions. Those who have lost their livelihood must be compensated adequately.

Yours sincerely,
