Sir,

Greetings from PVCHR.

Please refer to the attached news item published in The Samaj, Date 18th JUne, 2011, Odisha.

According to this news report, a tantrik in Bhawanipatna town has kept around 20 mentally disturbed persons tide in chains. The tantrik has been harrassing the family members of the ill persons for moneyfor their treatment.

Despite public demand the local police according to the report has not acted against the tantrik and waiting for a formal complaints to be lodged in this regard.

Sir, on behalf of PVCHR, I request NHRC to intervene in this issue immediately and get the chained mentally ill persons released. The tantrik must be dealt as per the law. The state should be directed to arrange for the treatment of the patients. The poor families should be given compensation by the state.
