Sir,
Greetings from PVCHR.
Please refer to the link: http://sambadepaper.com/Details.aspx?id=3942&boxid=25432593
The news report carries a photograph where the ladies and the children ae ploughing the land replacing animals and man in Godari village, Jharia Block in Nabarangpur District. The report mentions about three pairs of femals engaged in this activity. Some of the females whose names are carried in the report are
Jamuna Bhatra (17), Gurubari Gaud (18), Satya Dai (30), Mahani Gaud (25). These ladies have said the reporter that they have been doing it for years to earn Rs 60/- to Rs 70/- per day.
The photo evidence is a shame to the nation. Incidentally, the Jharia block was supposedly done exceptionally well in implementing MGNREGA programme. On behalf of PVCHR, I request NHRC to urgently intervene in the matter and free the ladies and children from this humiliating act. The poor families must be provided with opportunity to benefit from the employment gurantee programmes immediately.
With regards,
Dr. Mohanlal Panda
