NHRC directs investigation by its own team in Farbisganj police firing in Bihar

The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, today asked its Director General (Investigation) to depute a team for conducting an on the spot inquiry into an alleged incident of firing by police and killing of four persons in village Bhajanpur, Farbisganj, District Araria in Bihar on the 3 June, 2011. Those killed included a pregnant woman and a ten months old child. Allegedly, after shooting down the persons, the policemen also kicked one of them with boots crushing him to death finally.
The Commission took this decision after consideration of complaints filed by Ms. Brinda Karat, MP , Rajya Sabha, Dr. Mohan Lal Panda, a human rights activist, Mr. Ram Vilas Paswan, National President, Lok Janshakti Party who also led a delegation to meet Mr. Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, Chairperson, NHRC requesting for his intervention in the matter. A delegation led by Ms Shabnam Hashmi of an NGO, SAHMAT also met the Chairperson in this connection.
